The rundown
What it is
The DigiTech DOD Overdrive Preamp 250 is an overdrive pedal with just Gain and Level knobs. The maker presents it as a revival of an older design, built with parts true to the original era but with some current-day features added.
What it sounds like
Bonedo's reviewer, who gave it 4.5 out of 5, described the tone as classic and said the overdrive responds with good dynamics. The same reviewer also praised the boost section, which includes a buffer that can be turned on or off. The other sources say little about the sound.
Skip it if
Look elsewhere if you want onboard tone shaping, since the listed controls stop at Gain and Level. The data also does not state the bypass type, so check that before buying if it matters to you.
Where it goes in your chain
As an overdrive, it normally goes in front of the amplifier, ahead of any time-based effects. Its switchable buffer, per Bonedo, may be worth considering when deciding where it sits relative to other pedals.
